Hello, I’m Tom, a Bristol-based designer with over a decade in transport and product design, specializing in electric mobility and rapid prototyping. From my early days at Shado UK to founding Mathos Design Ltd, I've handled everything from CAD modeling to full project delivery, blending hands-on engineering with practical solutions. My work spans automotive redesigns, e-bike developments, and scale models, always focusing on functionality and real-world performance. Passionate about e-mobility, I bring international experience from time in Singapore and China, where I managed vehicular projects and built supplier networks.
Bond Bug Redesign I took the classic 1970s Bond Bug three-wheeler and updated it into a practical electric city car. Handled everything from CAD modelling the body and components like doors and lights, to prototyping and project coordination. It was a fun way to blend retro style with modern EV tech for urban driving.
Sharing E-Bike for Southeast Asia Developed an electric bike tailored for bike-sharing programs in busy SE Asian cities. From initial sketches to sourcing parts and overseeing manufacture in China, the focus was on durable, user-friendly designs that could handle daily rentals and hot climates.
Scale Models for Amalgam Collection Worked with Amalgam on high-end scale models, including reverse engineering a GT40 from scan data. Cleaned up the meshes, created smooth surfaces, and prepped files for precise replication at various scales—ensuring every detail matched the original car.
Personal Projects: 2WD E-Bikes and Custom Designs On my own time, I've built custom e-bikes with two-wheel drive for better traction on off-road trails, plus other bike tweaks like ergonomic frames and integrated tech. These hands-on experiments help test ideas for stability and performance in real-world riding.
Reverse Engineering from Scan Data
I specialize in turning messy 3D scan data into clean, lightweight CAD models. Using tools like Autodesk Alias, I create smooth Class A surfaces that are easy to manufacture, with quick turnarounds—often wrapping up complex jobs in days while keeping file sizes low for efficient workflows.
